ʻUkulele and Hawaiian Language (ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi)
Kaliko Beamer Trapp, the hānai (adoptive) son of the late Aunty Nona Beamer, is a Hawaiian language and culture educator who has spent many years working in the area of Hawaiian language revitalization, including as a science and technology teacher at Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu Hawaiian Immersion school in Puna (1995-2002), as well as at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo (2004-2020), both on Hawaiʻi Island. He is also a 29-year member of the Hawaiian Language Lexicon Committee and is a founding Board Member and past President of Mohala Hou Foundation. Kaliko is also an interpreter and interpreter-instructor in Hawaiian language for the State of Hawaiʻi, mostly working for the state courts. Kaliko has been especially busy since 2020 in his online “Hawaiian Language Virtual Classroom”.
Kaliko has a passion for teaching, and he loves to break down difficult concepts and make them easy to understand. He is known for his fun-loving approach to both ʻukulele and Hawaiian language instruction and helps his students to feel at ease no matter how hard the lessons may be.
